CAT Questions

CAT 2025 DILR was similar to CAT 2022 in pattern. All the four sets had 5 questions this year too. There were 6 TITA Questions. Atleast two sets were doable in each slot and one of the four sets was extremely tough. Choice of Sets became a crucial factor. Overall this section was at a medium to high level of difficulty.

Ananya Raga, Bhaskar Tala, Charu Veena, and Devendra Sur are four musicians. Each of them started and completed their training as students under each of three Gurus — Pandit Meghnath, Ustad Samiran, and Acharya Raghunath between 2013 and 2024, including both the years. Each Guru trains any student for consecutive years only, for a span of 2, 3, or 4 years, with each Guru having a different span. During some of these years, a student may not have trained under these Gurus; however, they never trained under multiple Gurus in the same year.
In none of these years, any of these Gurus trained more than two of these students at the same time. When two students train under the same Guru at the same time, they are referred to as Gurubhai, irrespective of their gender.
The following additional facts are known.
1. Ustad Samiran never trained more than one of these students in the same year.
2. Acharya Raghunath did not train any of these students during 2015-2018, as well as during 2021-24.
3. Ananya and Devendra were never Gurubhai; neither were Bhaskar and Charu. All other pairs of musicians were Gurubhai for exactly 2 years.
4. In 2013, Ananya and Bhaskar started their trainings under Pandit Meghnath and under Ustad Samiran, respectively.

"Acharya Raghunath did not train any of these students during 2015-2018, as well as during 2021-24."
This implies that Raghunath had the opportunity to train students for two years each, and in pairs of two, between 2013-2014 and 2019-2020.

"Ustad Samiran never trained more than one of these students in the same year."
Because Raghunath trains students for 2 years, Samiran can train each student for 3 or 4 years. Since he trains only one student at a time at max, and there are only 12 years, he can't train students for 4 years each. So Samiran has to train each student for 3 years each.

Megnath, then has to train each student for 4 years.

Ananya and Bhaskar start training with Megnath and Samiran in 2013.
This means Charu & Devendra train with Raghunath between 2013-2014. Ananya and Bhaskar then had to train with Raghunath between 2019-2020.

Look at the grid so far, the only way Ananya can train with Samiran is if she trains between 2022-2024. That's because, no student can train with more than one guru at a time.



The only chance Charu has to be 'Gurubhai with Ananya' for exactly two years is if she trains under Megnath between 2015-2018. This means Charu has to train under Samiran between 2019-2021 while Devendra trains under Samiran between 2016-2018.



Bhaskar and Charu were never Gurubhais. So the only opportunity that Bhaskar has to train under Megnath is between 2021-2024. Since Devendra has to be 'Gurubhai with Bhaskar' for exactly two years, he has to train under Megnath between 2019-2022.
