IIM Rohtak IPMAT blueprint – the framework that gives an overall idea for the aspirants about the areas to focus on while preparing for the IPMAT 2021. Though there are five IIMs – Indore<\/a>, Rohtak<\/a>, Ranchi<\/a>, Bodh Gaya and Jammu<\/a> – that offer\/will begin to offer their own IPMs, we have reference points only for two of these IPMATs – Indore and Rohtak. Having covered the IIM Indore’s IPMAT blueprint earlier in this article<\/a>, which analysed the question types, pattern, and level of difficulty, this article now aims to continue along similar lines and infer some conclusions based on the IIM Rohtak IPMAT blueprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does the sample paper of 2020 tell us about the IIM Rohtak IPMAT blueprint?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

We are limiting the scope of this article to the Quant section of the IPMAT exam of IIM Rohtak. The sample paper<\/a> consists of 40 questions from Quant, the split-up of which is given below in the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IIM Rohtak IPMAT blueprint – A glimpse of the IIM Rohtak’s 2020 Sample Paper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

To be clear, the sample paper is released by the IIM Rohtak before the actual IPMAT examination to give a sense of the real deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we can see, a total of 18 questions out of the total of 40 are asked only from the Arithmetic topics. That is 45% of the Quant section, as can be seen in the chart below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, just combine with the Data Interpretation component with Arithmetic, since the former is essentially an offshoot of the latter. That covers close to 60% of the Quant section. There is no better way to demonstrate the priority that needs to be given to Arithmetic. Follow Arithmetic up with Geometry and Algebra, in the order of your preference, and you are pretty much almost done with your Quant preparation when it comes to IIM Rohtak’s IPMAT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This table bears a stark contrast with that of the LoD – as the Level of Difficulty is commonly known in the IPMAT parlance – of IIM Indore. The Indore’s paper consisted of more Medium level questions than the Easy ones. Here, the choice is easy to make. Solve the Easy questions first, go for as many Medium level questions as possible, and leave out the rest without getting worried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The classification of questions is based on two factors<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. The amount of pre-existing knowledge and conceptual depth that is required to crack a question (those that require minimal depth have been put into the Easy bucket).<\/li>
  2. The time required to solve the particular question (anything that takes between 60 and 90 seconds are classified as Easy, those that take upto 120-150 seconds belong in the Medium category, and the others go into the Hard bucket).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Needless to say, it is obvious that the majority of the Easy questions come from the Arithmetic section. There are just more and more reasons for the IPMAT aspirants to focus on Arithmetic to the greatest possible extent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    IPMAT actual 2020 paper – what does this tell us about the IIM Rohtak IPMAT blueprint?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    When it comes to the IPMAT 2020 examination of IIM Rohtak, they had officially released a set of 20 questions from the Quant section. We have analysed the pattern based on those questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The broad categorization of questions based on the topics is given below in the table.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Here, the weightage to Arithmetic is even higher. 50% of of the 20 questions have come from Arithmetic. The only catch here is that this need not necessarily be a reflection of the full Quant section, since we do not have the data for the entire section. For example, there is no question from Geometry within this sample of 20 questions, whereas in the sample paper, we had 6 questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    But, that differences aside…<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    There are obvious skews. Given the less sample space, Permutations and Combinations and Modern Math occupy the second position in the list, with 7 questions. Though this need not be representative, PnC still seems to be a crucial topic because even if we 7\/40 questions is still close to 20%, which is a significant number in itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Out of the 20 questions, 13 are of the asy level, which means you will hardly take a maximum of 15 minutes to solve these, if you are able to spot the right ones quickly. The trend remains the same with the fact that most of the Easy questions are from Arithmetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    IIM Rohtak – Sample Paper vs. Actual Paper – what are the inferences?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Of course, we would not be giving fancy pie charts and Excel tables if there were no conclusions that could be drawn. So, here goes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1) Arithmetic is key<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

    This needs no reiteration. Be it IIM Indore IPMAT or IIM Rohtak IPMAT, the obvsious starting point is Arithmetic. Not only do they help you cover a lot of questions in the actual examination, they also help you with Data Interpretation<\/a>. If you are strong in Percentages, Profit and Loss, Simple Interest and Compound Interest<\/a>, Averages, Ratio and Proportions, Mixtures and Alligations<\/a>, Progressions<\/a>, Time Speed and Distance, Races<\/a>, Pipes and Cisterns, Work and Time<\/a>, you can be sure about scoring the bare minimum and even beyond that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2) Algebra, Modern Math and Geometry<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Now, this is tricky. Thanks to the variation we have in terms of the question split-up in the sample paper and the actual paper, there are some differences. Between Algebra and Geometry, it is ideal to go for the area that you are more comfortable with. It is important here to understand that Geometry refers to Co.ordinate Geometry<\/a>, Trigonometry<\/a>, Geometry<\/a> and Mensuration<\/a>, and Algebra includes Linear and Quadratic Equations<\/a>, Inequalities<\/a>, Polynomials<\/a>, Functions<\/a>, Exponents and Logarithms<\/a>, Set Theory<\/a>, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Further, as can be seen from the actual 2020 paper<\/a>, there are 7 questions from PnC and Modern Math. This makes it crucial to not leave out these topics while preparation. You might want to reserve these topics for the last leg of your preparation if you have enough room. But do not overloook them at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
