CAT Questions

CAT 2025 DILR was similar to CAT 2022 in pattern. All the four sets had 5 questions this year too. There were 6 TITA Questions. Atleast two sets were doable in each slot and one of the four sets was extremely tough. Choice of Sets became a crucial factor. Overall this section was at a medium to high level of difficulty.

At InnovateX, six employees, Asha, Bunty, Chintu, Dolly, Eklavya, and Falguni, were split into two groups of three each: Elite led by Manager Kuku, and Novice led by Manager Lalu.

At the end of each quarter, Kuku and Lalu handed out ratings to all members in their respective groups. In each group, each employee received a distinct integer rating from 1 to 3.

The score for an employee at the end of a quarter is defined as their cumulative rating from the beginning of the year. At the end of each quarter the employee in Novice with the highest score was promoted to Elite, and the employee in Elite with the minimum score was demoted to Novice. If there was a tie in scores, the employee with a higher rating in the latest quarter was ranked higher.

1. Asha, Bunty, and Chintu were in Elite at the beginning of Quarter 1. All of them were in Novice at the beginning of Quarter 4.
2. Dolly and Falguni were the only employees who got the same rating across all the quarters.
3. The following is known about ratings given by Lalu:
• Bunty received a rating of 1 in Quarter 2.
• Asha and Dolly received ratings of 1 and 2, respectively, in Quarter 3.

Let's maintain a grid of the employees and their ratings in each of the quarters. With the given information, the grid would look like this.

Falguni has the same rating every quarter.
This means she can't have rating 2, because Dolly, who has the same rating across all quarters, is also in the Novice group in Q1. Since the three members of a group must receive distinct ratings, Falguni and Dolly cannot both have rating 2 in Q1.

She can't have a rating of 1 either. If she did, her score would be too low and she would have to remain in Novice in Q2, but we know for a fact that Bunty has a rating of 1 in Novice Q2.
So Falguni's rating should always be 3, and she remains in Elite from the beginning of Q2 to the end.

Also, since Bunty switches from Elite to Novice between Q1 and Q2, Bunty's rating in Q1 should be 1.
Since Bunty has a rating of 1 in both Q1 and Q2, he has the lowest cumulative score at the beginning of Q3. Therefore, he should remain in Novice in Q3 as well, and get the unique Novice rating of 3 in Q3.
Hence, we can fix the group membership in Q3: Chintu and Eklavya are in Elite, while Bunty remains in Novice.
Also, since Bunty and Falguni switch teams between Q1 and Q2, we now know the group of each person in Q1 and Q2.
Since Dolly always gets a rating of 2, in Novice Q2, Eklavya has to grab the remaining rating of 3.

Analyzing different combination of scores in Q1 and Q2, between Asha and Chintu we find that Chintu has to get a rating og 2 in Q2, to remain in the Elite group.

Chintu enters Q3 with a score of 4 or 5, while Eklavya enters Q3 with a score of 4. Since Chintu is demoted at the end of Q3, Eklavya should score more than Chintu in Q3.
Therefore, Eklavya should receive rating 2 in Q3, while Chintu receives rating 1.
Asha and Chintu could get a either a rating of 2 or 3 in Q1.
