The main idea in 3 is that America wants to establish the ideology of reassurance through imitation. The link between 3 and 4 is strong: 4 continues the idea in 3, stating that 'profit defeats ideology'. 4 also states that consumers want to be thrilled not just by the guarantee of Good but also by the exciting sensation of fright that the Bad creates.
