Explanatory Answer

It is given that Sheela purchases two varieties of apples - A and B for a total of rupees 2800.
It is also given that the weights are in the ratio 5: 8
So let’s suppose that the weight of A and B are ‘5x’kgs and ‘8x’kgs respectively.
Given that, the cost per kg of A is 20% more than that of B.
So that, the costs are in the ratio of 6: 5
So let’s suppose that the cost per kg of A and B are ‘6y’ and ‘5y’ respectively.
The amount spent on A and B are 30xy and 40xy
We know that the amount spent is 2800.
Therefore 30xy + 40xy = 2800
70xy = 2800
xy = 40.
Hence A = 30(40) = 1200
B = 40(40) = 1600
Sheela sells A with a profit of 15%. So, the selling price of A is 1380
Sheela sells B with a profit of 10%. So, the selling price of B is 1760
Total selling price = 3140
Net Profit = 3140 - 2800 = 340

The answer is '340'

Choice D is the correct answer.
