CAT Questions

CAT 2024 Quant was dominated by Algebra followed by Arithmetic. In Arithmetic, the questions were dominated by topics like Speed-time-distance, Mixture and Alligations. This year, there was a surprise. The questions from Geometry were relatively on the lower side as compared to the previous years. There were 8 TITA Qs this year. Overall this section was at a medium level of difficulty.

Question 19 A vessel contained a certain amount of a solution of acid and water. When 2 litres of water was added to it, the new solution had 50% acid concentration. Let initial quantity of acid= x.
Therefore initial quantity of water= x-2.
Adding 2 litres of water makes acid concentration to 50%.
Now by adding 15 litres of acid, makes acid concentration to 80%.
Therefore (x+15)/(2x+15)= 80/100;
5(x+15)= 4(2x+15);
5x+ 75= 8x+ 60
3x= 15
x= 5
Initial quantity of acid= 5
Initial quantity of water= 5-2= 3
Ratio of water and acid in the original solution was 3:5
