Question 17: At what time between 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm ,the two arms of a watch are completely opposite to each other?
At both 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm, the minute hand of the clock is at pointing at 12, and during this interval the hour hand moves from 2 to 3.
When the hour hand is at 3, the minute hand should have been pointing at 9 to make a straight line, but we know that the minute hand must have passed before the clock shows 3:00pm. So anything after 2:45 pm cannot be the answer.
Now, at 2:40 the minute hand is at 8, which is directly opposite to 2, which again cannot be the answer as the hour hand moves as 40 minutes pass after 2:00 pm.
So, the answer has to be 2:44 pm
The question is "At what time between 2.00 pm and 3.00 pm ,the two arms of a watch are completely opposite to each other?"
