Explanatory Answer

Nonchalant -> being indifferent or unconcerned
Remonstration -> the act of opposing something in a requesting or a commanding tone
Philippic -> a remark or speech that is specifically targeted AGAINST a person or an event
Ennui -> a feeling of extreme dissatisfaction

“Though”, “Abusive behaviour” and “talking back” are the key words/phrases that set us off this question. The abusive behaviour from the boss made the person talk back, which is atypical of him. That is what we understand from the first statement.
Usually, the person does not care, but today he argued. Hence, the first two blanks should be filled up with nonchalant and remonstration.
The final blank is the effect of the behaviour of the person, which cannot be “philippic”. It should be “ennui”.
So, the right answer choice is option 1.

Choice A is the correct answer.
