CLAT Quantitative Techniques: Three Friends

Three friends Gowri, Madan and Abhishek who run YouTube channels organized a party. On the day of the party, Abhishek and Madan had a total of 350 subscribers across their channels. Madan and Gowri had a total of 400 subscribers across their channels.

The number of subscribers in each of their channels increases by a fixed amount each day and no one unsubscribes (i.e., leaves) their channels.

The trio had met 50 days before the party to celebrate the occasion of Gowri’s channel reaching 100 subscribers. It is known that Gowri’s channel gains 1 subscriber per day. Madan’s channel gains 4 times as many subscribers as Gowri’s channel per day. At the time of this meeting 50 days ago, total subscriber count across all three channels was 150.

The trio had a fun time at Goa and made many videos for their subscribers. Due to this they added double the number of subscribers per day than usual. Their trip lasted 9 days. At the end of their trip, how many subscribers does Madan have?

  1. 356
  2. 284
  3. 606
  4. 534

Explanatory Answer

We’ve calculated that Madan had 250 subscribers on the day of the party.

For the next 71 days, he would’ve added 4 subscribers per day: 71*4 = 284
During the 9 days of the trip, he would’ve added 8 subscribers per day:
9*8 = 72
o the total number of subscribers Madan had at the end of the trip = 250 + 284 + 72 = 606

Answer: C) 606
