Explanatory Answer

“Unique” denotes one of a kind, and is not used in comparative contexts. Here, the approaches of Vikram and Harpreet are compared. So, “unique” cannot be the right usage. Options A and D an thus be eliminated.
“Hadn’t” and “no” are two negatives that cannot form part of the same sentence. Hence, option B can be eliminated.
There is a contrast (opposing ideas) between the two parts of the sentence. The idea is different, meaning it is expected to elicit some criticism; but Vikram did not expect it. “And” is used as a conjunction to denote two agreeable parts, while “but” represents contrary ideas. Thus, option E can be eliminated.
This leaves us with option C, which is the right answer choice.

The question is "Which of the following sentences contains correct and meaningful usage of the underlined words?"

Hence, the answer is Vikram’s approach to the problem was different from Harpreet’s, but he had expected no criticism from her.

Choice C is the correct answer.
