Five plays A, B, C, D and E are to be staged from Monday to Friday of a week. On each day, only one play will be staged. D or E should not be either the first or last to be staged. E should be immediately followed by C. B should be staged immediately after D. One play is staged between A and B.

Let us put this in the form of a table.
Mon can only have A, B or C. But C follows E. Therefore Monday is either A or B. Wednesday is B or E as one play between A and B.
Therefore Thursday is E and Friday is C.

Tuesday should be D and therefore Monday is A and Wednesday is B as B should follow D.

From the table, we can see that A is the first play to be staged.

The question is "Which is the first play to be staged?"

Hence, the answer is A
