Question 9 : Ram, Ravi and Ratan can alone finish an assignment in 9 days, 12 days and 15 days respectively. They decide to complete a work by working in turns. Ram works alone on Monday, Ravi does the work alone on Tuesday, followed by Ratan working alone on Wednesday & so on. What proportion of the complete work is done by Ravi?
Ram completes the job in 9 days, Ravi in 12 days and Ratan in 15 days.
Let the total job be 180 units
In the first three days Ram does 20 units, Ravi does 15 units and Ratan does 12 units and the total job done in 3 days is 47 units.
In the next 3 days another 47 units are done and so on.
So after 3 cycles 141 units of work is completed. Ram then covers another 20 units, Ravi then covers 15 units and Ratan covers 4 units.
So the total job done by Ravi is 60 units.
So he does 1/3 rd of the job.
Choice C is the correct answer.
