Question 10 : There are 12 copies of Beetles CDs, 7 copies of Pink Floyd CDs, 3 different CDs of Michael Jackson, and 2 different CDs of Madonna. Find the number of ways in which one or more than one CD can be selected?
For Beetles and Pink Floyd
Since we have copies of CD's only the number of CD's count, and not which beetle/ which pink gets picked
Decision making here is number of items
Beetle , 0 or 1 or ....., 12
Pink Floyd , 0 or 1 or ..... 7
For Michael Jackson (M1, M2, M3) - What I'm selecting matters
So, M1 is in or out (2 possibilities), and
M2 is in or out (2 possibilities). M3 is in or out (2 possibilities)
So, 2 × 2 × 2 = 8 ways for selecting Michael Jackson CD's
Similarly 2 × 2 = 4 ways for selecting Madonna CD's.
So, Beetle = 13 ways × Pink = 8 ways × Michael Jackson 8 ways × Madonna 4 ways
In this whole thing we are subtracting 1, Since that will be a possibility where nothing is selected.
(13 × 8 × 8 × 4) - 1
= 3327 ways.
Choice D is the correct answer.
