When should you prepare for the IPMAT 2021 now that the board exams have been postponed – And we now know that there’s a lot of time left before you have to worry day-in and day-out about your board exams. So how does this affect your preparation? When do you prepare? How long per day? Read along to get all these questions answered.
Dealing with the uncertainty
We know little about when any of these exams (Be it Boards, or JEE, or DUJAT, or NEET, or our IPMAT) are going to take place. There’s rampant uncertainty.
In all likelihood, the boards are going to get over by the second or third week of July, and within the next 10-15 days, all of these entrance exams are going to happen consecutively. In all likelihood, you might not get enough time to prepare for any of these exams post your board exams. So NOW (April end, May, Early June) is when you will have time to prepare for all your examinations.
You have to take the safe bet and prepare whenever possible so that you don’t get stuck among those students who don’t prepare properly for IPMAT. So when should you prepare for IPMAT this year?
The altered IPMAT 2021 Preparation Timeline
You not have a beautiful window of a minimum of 6-8 weeks where you can spend time exclusively for your IPMAT preparation. You need to find that small window during your day where you can squeeze in your preparation and get a majority of your prep done.
Why is IPMAT more crucial than usual this year?
Since there’s a wide uncertainty of how the board exams will be conducted, in case they’re conducted via pseudo-online methods, the weightage given to past-acads is bound to go down a little bit and more importance will be given to the aptitude exams – So prepare harder! If you have poor acads, this could be your shot at a level playing field.
How much per day will it take to prepare for IPMAT?
This is not a one-size-fits-all equation. Different students will take different amount of time to prepare for this exam – so I am going to take into account, the average student. One that is partly familiar with the IPMAT Portion, but needs to revise the entire portion from scratch.
For Quantitative Aptitude
This is the major section – This is where you will spend the most amount of time for your preparation. You need to spend at least 1 and a half hours of prep time per day, and an extra 5-10 hours during the weekends.
This boils down to 15-20 hours per week in terms of preparation for the IPMAT’s Quant section.
For Verbal Ability
This takes a lot lesser investment in terms of time spent in preparing. Spend up to 1 hour per day and you can afford to take a break and study only for 3-4 days a week. This “preparing” includes understanding theory/question templates and a little bit of practice.
There’s still a monster sitting inside the Verbal Ability section – And that’s READING!
Why is it important to build a reading habit? The Verbal Ability section of the IPMAT examination requires you to:
1. Understand what you read; and
2. Use the point-of-view of the author into the answers that are asked.
Building a reading habit helps you do EXACTLY this. If you spend up to 45 minutes per day for 50 days, you will drastically improve your comprehension, your reading speed (without compromising comprehension), and you will organically improve your vocabulary without having to by-heart word meanings of 1000 words.
This brings us to the next question – What do you read?
We have a curated list of hundreds of articles compiled over 2 and a half years especially for aspirants of various aptitude tests across a WIDE variety of blogs, magazines, internet newspapers, etc across a variety of genres – Check out “Bharath’s Reading List” for a never-ending list of entertaining reading articles.
Logical Reasoning
The logical reasoning section is much different in terms of how you prepare. You need to get comfortable with a bunch of question templates that are tested and find ways to get quicker in solving them. You also have to spend a little bit of time in building a good exam strategy.
You can afford to spend less than an hour a day 2-3 days a week.
So how long do you have to spend per week for IPMAT Preparation overall?
You end up with about 25-30 hours to spend per week on your IPMAT preparation. That boils down to around 2 hours a day during the weekdays and an extra few hours during the weekends.
This brings us to the FINAL question – How should one prepare for the IPMAT examination within a 6 week period?
