IIM Jammu IPM – the latest entrant into the IPM fold, following IIM Indore (the very first IIM to offer an IPM), IIM Rohtak, and IIM Bodh Gaya and IIM Ranchi (both of whom announced their IPM programs this year).
What is the program all about? What are the eligibility criteria? Anything that stands out in IIM Jammu IPM? Let’s find out!
IIM Jammu IPM – Eligibility criteria
There are a bunch of eligbility criteria that have been put forth by IIM Jammu for its IPM program.
- The candidates must have passed their 12th grade or HSC or equivalent examination in 2019 or 2020. Alternatively, any candidate who is appearing for their HSC examination in 2021 will also be eligible to apply, provided they complete their examinations on or before 31 July, 2021.
- The candidates must have scored a minimum of 60% in their 10th grade (SSLC) and 12th grade (HSC) examinations. For those candidates who belong to the SC, ST or the PwD groups, the threshold has been kept at 55%.
- The Board of Education would not be a barrier, and candidates pursuing their schooling from the foreign Boards like IGCSE and IB can also apply to the IIM Jammu IPM.
The selection process
Again, there are three distinct components that go into the selection process of IIM Jammu IPM.
They are as follows:
- Joint Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test (JIPMAT) scores
JIPMAT is going to be conducted and administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) (which also conducts some of the national-level entrance examinations like IIFT).

The merit list preparation and the parameters
There are four different parameters that are going to be considered for the preparation of the final merit list.
Parameter | Weightage |
JIPMAT | 95% |
Gender Diversity | 5% |
Spotted the difference?
Yes. There is no personal interview (or at least none that we can decipher from the announcement in the IIM Jammu website; and, the weightage components only make it clearer).
Hmm, this is… interesting! What are the other details one must keep in mind?
Good question. We are yet to cover some more ground. Read on!
When it comes to the Gender Diversity, male candidates will be given zero marks, while females will be awarded 5 marks.
What is the total intake?
The total strength of the IIM Jammu IPM Batch of 2021-26 is going to be 60.
How do the number of seats for each category play out?
The following table should give a brief idea of how the seats are going to be split up.
Category | Seats (%) | Seats (Approximate Number) |
SC | 15% | 9 |
ST | 7.5% | 5 |
NC-OBC | 27% | 16 |
EWS | 10% | 6 |
PwD | 5% | 3 |
IIM Jammu IPM and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
Adhering to the principles and guidelines put forth in the new NEP, the IIM Jammu IPM programme offering is going to be distinct in the following aspects.
1) Multidisciplinary program
The IIM Jammu IPM will encompass the following areas of study:
- Business and Commerce
- Sustainability and Environmental Studies
- Mathematics
- Arts and Humanities
- Science and Technology
- Languages
2) Multiple exit options
As per the recommendations of the NEP, the IPM at IIM Jammu will facilitate multiple exit options for the students so as to provide them the choice to pursue something different in their career and life.
After Year 1
The students can exit with a ‘Certificate in Basics of Management‘.
After Year 2
At this point, the students can opt out with a ‘Advanced Certificate in Management‘.
After Year 3
This is pretty standard, and applies across all the IIMs that offer IPM. Students will be awarded the ‘BBA‘ degree.
Condition to continue into the MBA programme
For this, the students must have a CGPA of 6 or above at the end of three years.
What is the final word?
In the coming days, we are going to be enlightened with more information specifying what the examination is going to look like. In any case, IPMAT (or any other entrance examination) is going to test your Verbal Ability and Quantitative Aptitude, with a bit of Data Interpretation.
Start preparing right away. As more and more IIMs keep coming up with their own IPM, and different qualifying examinations for the same, you might want to prepare and cover enough ground before the D-day(s) approach(es).
