Question 1 : In a division problem, product of quotient and the remainder is 24 while their sum is 10. If the divisor is 5 then dividend is __________.
Given that,
Quotient(Q) x Remainder(R) = 24
Quotient(Q) + Remainder(R) = 10
Basically, we have been given sum and product of the roots of a quadratic equation.
By observing, we can see that the roots should be 6 and 4 (6 x 4 = 24 and 6 + 4 = 10)
We do not know yet whether Quotient is 6 and Remainder is 4 or vice versa.
It is also given that the divisor is 5. From this we can infer that the remainder cannot be 6 as the divisor is 5.
Therfore Quotient = 6 ; Divisor = 5 ; Remainder = 4.
Dividend = (Divisor x Quotient) + Remainder
Dividend = (5 x 6) + 4
Dividend = 34
The question is " In a division problem, product of quotient and the remainder is 24 while their sum is 10. If the divisor is 5 then dividend is __________. "
