These days, it seems like you’re either a podcast person, or you’re not a podcast person. If you are (or you’re trying to be), you know that the sheer number of options is kind of mind-boggling. Everybody has a podcast, and you can find one for any topic that interests you—from politics and the arts to hobbies and television shows.
For those looking to learn a thing or two on their daily commute or between classes, podcasts are an excellent way to get information on-the-go and in short, digestible segments. MBA students, in particular, can stay abreast of industry trends and glean valuable insights into the next phase of their careers. But with so many podcasts out there, it’s not always easy to sort through all the noise. To that end, we’ve put together this list of 9 podcasts every MBAs should subscribe to right now—in no particular order.
1. HBR Ideacast
Want to master the art of persuasion? Or learn to break down bureaucracy and build up workers? Listen to HBR IdeaCast. Brought to you by Harvard Business Review, this weekly podcast features leading thinkers in business and management. HBR IdeaCast is hosted by Harvard Business Review senior editors Alison Beard and Curt Nickisch.
2. The Mckinsey Podcast
Want to get into finance and consulting in the future? This could be your jam. Welcome to the McKinsey Podcast, a business and management podcast featuring conversations with leading experts. The series features topics ranging from leadership and change management to digital, analytics and deep-dives into specific regions and industries. Very detailed, insightful and, deep, these are sure to add a lot of knowledge to your mind.
3. Knowledge@Wharton
Another one of those names you’re probably familiar with in the MBA world. Created by The University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, this podcast features CEOs, Wharton faculty, and other prominent figures who provide their analyses of global business trends, breaking news, market research, and more. Their latest episode? What healthcare workers can learn from management. Pretty interesting!
4. Ted Talks Businesses
We all know TED Talks. Usually you can watch the videos of these talks on YouTube, etc. But did you know that all the TED Talks are available as podcasts too! So Ted Talks for business are talks aimed at helping you understand the world of business! Whether you are an MBA aspirant preparing for CAT and other entrance exams, or an MBA student getting ready for the onset of b-school and summer placement interviews, or final placement interviews, these talks are sure to add perspective to your thoughts and teach you new concepts, even new words!
5. The Gary Vee Audio Experience
Something about life, something about digital marketing, a bit about sales, dashes of success and failure stories, if you haven’t heard this yet. Check it out. Gary Vaynerchuk is entrepreneur, CEO, investor, vlogger, and public speaker. And this podcast features questions asked to him by various people about business, the science of self preservation and growth, as well as work! This is sure to broaden your mind, give you insight into the gap between thinking and acting, as well as help you in your personal journey.
6. Entrepreneurs on Fire
If you’re tired of spending 90 percent of your day on things you don’t enjoy, Entrepreneurs on Fire is the podcast for you. Founder and host John Lee Dumas (but he says you can call him JLD) provides listeners with inspiration and strategies to ignite their entrepreneurial journey and live the life they’ve always dreamed of. 7. The Tim Ferris Show
Each episode, Tim deconstructs world-class performers from eclectic areas (investing, sports, business, art, etc.) to extract the tactics, tools, and routines you can use. Lex is a thoughtful inquisitive host and his guests are intelligent folks with much to say and explain in their given area of expertise. This show goes deep and is always thought provoking. It’s not for the shallow minded or those that want a quick skim of a subject. For a curious mind getting the opportunity to ask the most brilliant minds on this planet the deepest most difficult questions is only a dream. Lex begins and ends each show with such questions and the minds he invites onto the podcast are quite literally the most interesting and brilliant.
