Hello sir good evening..iam weak in DILR section I am practically going nowhere in that section.. suggest me something that would help me out in that section

I have just started my preparation and in Quant my basics like percentage and profit and loss are weak. Should I focus on strengthening them first or go through the full syllabus first to find what are my strengths and work on them? Also for VARC, I have always been an avid reader so my attempt rate is high at 79%, I can do one full passage in 8-10 minutes but accuracy is quite low at 48%. Should I attempt lesser questions or focus more on accuracy to go above 90 percentile in that section?

Hi,
I have prepared arithmetic, geometry so far and i am able to solve many questions from these topics in sectional tests, but during mocks many times I’m not able to solve simple questions from these topics correctly and realize that there was a silly mistake how to avoid these kind of goof ups?and I also tend to get in a very rushed state of mind in quants section and as a result end up getting panicked and make silly mistakes.

Accuracy in RC is around 65 to 75, I want to increase it to 8- to 85 range, any tips on doing that. Also, accuracy in Quant and DILR is pretty low less than 90 percent

Good evening Sir, I will be completing studying your video lectures by the end of this month and then on planning to take mocks every alternate day along with sectional mocks. Apart from this what should I do to increase my accuracy in mocks? Please suggest most important topics in Quants to focus on. And when should I start taking revision classes from the course?
Thanks.

I have identified a few weak topics of mine in quant, like TSD, Races, Geometry questions on triangle similarities, reminders, should I practice them or leave them

In RC, I have easily eliminated 2 options out of 4. I am finding it difficult to choose the correct one out of the remaining 2 options. How to work on this ?

Hello sir,
Q1. In the VARC section, I find the paragraph completion questions to be tough because always I find more than one option to be correct. I have also tried to solve the question by eliminating one out of two close options, but I keep getting them wrong. Is there a better way to approach these questions?
Q2. Should start focusing on sentence correction questions?
Raghu says
Q1- Scored 99.5, 86 and 87 across sections in standard order in CAT 2018. I know I’m fundamentally strong in Quant. I can solve nearly all the questions during analyses. I know “doing the drill” is the way to go, and I’ve been doing it for a while now, but to no avail. I’m still in that range in both sections with rare 95s to get my hopes up. The funny thing is in the past 4-5 mocks I’ve started falling under 95 in VARC as well, which never went below 98 for me. Please suggest something. Anything.
Q2 – Would you suggest two rounds for quant in mock? If so, how many questions and how much time to allot for round 1?
Raghu says
I’m just saying that I’m stuck in this rut for over a year now and it is extremely frustrating. And I have no idea how to go about it anymore. If a tough VARC section comes in CAT I’m dead bait in terms of my absolute score. This problem is so big for me that I’ll have to keep my DILR problems for the next doubt session now! It is affecting my stronger section too and now I’m desperate. Please suggest something.

Hi sir
I am constantly struggling in VARC. My scores are varing around 25-40 marks in sectional mocks of IMS. The accuracy is around 60-65%. I am taking approximately 10-12 mins for each RC with 6 questions. Is is okay speed or slow? I am also trying different strategies also but scores are same. Please suggest something.
Also my weak sections are Sentence corrections, Word Usage, Parajumbles. How should I approach them?
Thanks and Regards,
Subhodip

1. Which topics should I select after completing Geometry and Arithmetic in Quants. Should I go for Number Theory or should I go for other topics like functions and progressions.
2. How should I go ahead with DILR after completing Cat 2017,18 papers and online DILR course. What are the sources from which I can practice.

Three travellers are sitting around a fire, and are about to eat a meal. One of them has 5 small loaves of bread, the second has 3 small loaves of bread. The third has no food, but has 8 coins. He offers to pay for some bread. They agree to share the 8 loaves equally among the three travellers, and the third traveller will pay
8 coins for his share of the 8 loaves. All loaves were of the same size. The second traveller (who had 3 loaves) suggests that he will be paid 3 coins, and that the first traveller be paid 5 coins. The first traveller says that he should get more than 5 coins. How much should the first traveller get?

Hello Rajesh Sir.
I’m doing bad in the VARC section. My reading speed is really slow, i would rather say comprehending speed & speed of solving the questions. Taking too much time to understand & then in questions also. Not good at vocabulary also, due to which many times i completely misinterpret what is being said & end up marking the absolutely opposite answer. Everyone suggests to read, read & read, but how do i know whatever I’m reading if I’m comprehending exactly what the author is trying to say or something else according to my understanding ?
Since I’m more focused on accuracy, I’m not being able to attempt much questions in VARC section. My max is 21 & min 16 in mocks. Even in these low attempts the accuracy is pathetic, between 55% & 71%. & also for the correct answers that i give, I’m really not 100% sure as in the case of Quant.
What should i do? Please help me sir. With only around 90 days left for CAT, sometimes i become hopeless & negative emotions try to creep in, as I”m not good in any of the sections. But atleast my quant & lrdi remains 100% accuracy, even though very very low attempts.
* I’m preparing for CAT for the first time.

Should we read an entire rc to answer all the questions or we can skip some part and revisit after reading the question to manage the time correctly. Please provide some tips.

1. While doing RC’s, after two passages, I am losing somewhere. I am not able to get the skeleton of what the author says?. Unfamiliar words / unfamiliar topics like economics, make me losing the interest of solving that. How to tackle this problem?
Amrit Paul says
I am able to solve only 8 questions in DILR with 100 percent accuracy , what should be my plan.
