IIM Indore PGP 2022 Selection Criteria

IIM Indore selection policy has been released! Historically, Indore is considered among those IIMs which has not been kind to us, especially if you have a skeleton in the closet. Is there any change in this year’s policy? What this announcement essentially means for you? There are a plethora of questions to answer. In this blog post, we will try to clear the air!

Stage 1 – Minimum Eligibility Criteria – NOT a Call

All applicants who apply for the two-year PGP of IIM Indore must satisfy the eligibility criteria and also the minimum sectional percentile and overall percentile scores in CAT 2021 (as mentioned in Table-1). Only those applicants meeting the specified criteria will be considered for Stage-2 of selection process.

So the bottom line is if you tick all these boxes, i.e sectional percentile, Overall percentile then you come to the candidate pull whose score will be considered for stage 2 of the selection process.

Stage 2 – Shortlist for written ability test and interview

Only those candidates satisfying the requirements mentioned in Stage-I will be considered for this stage of shortlisting for WAT and PI. A sufficient number of candidates for WAT and PI for each category (General, EWS, NC-OBC, SC, ST and PwD) will be shortlisted using the merit list generated based on Composite Score (CS) as mentioned in Table 2.

• IIM Indore has given 74 per cent weightage on 10th and 12th combined
• Now there’s another part of this formula here which is the Z – score. Now the Z score is a score that is based on the Normal Curve. The Normal curve looks like a bell-shaped curve, where the midpoint of the curve gives the mean point of distribution. The mean score will be calculated based on the students who have taken CAT 2021 and applied to IIM Indore.

Let’s take a simple example to understand this. Let’s say there are 1000 students who have applied to IIM Indore. Let say the mean score for the 10th standard of this group of 1000 students is 60%. And the standard deviation is 10%. Now let say there is a candidate who got exactly 70% marks in the 10th standard. So this candidate is one standard deviation above the mean. And this gives us a Z-score of +1.

Now assume the lowest marks obtained by a candidate in the 10th standard is 40%. This means this candidate is two standard deviations below the mean. And this gives us a Z-score of -2.
Now let say the highest marks obtained by a candidate from the applicant pool is 90%. This person is 3 standard deviations above the mean. Which means he has a Z-score of +3.
Then the score awarded by IIM Indore for this candidate will be 34* { (1 + 2)/(3 +2 ) } = 34 * (3/5)

Long story short, if you have done well in your 10th and 12th, then you get a higher score here. Which essentially help you to get shortlisted for the interview. to geek out over z-score and standard deviation kindly, check out this blog.

Now after, this, they will take your CAT 2021 score into account. The marks will be awarded based on a formulae – 20 * { Candidate’s CAT overall score/Highest CAT overall score}

Stage 3 – Computation of Final Composite Score

Now, based on your composite score on a scale of 100, candidates will be called for an Interview. After the interview stage, the final selection will be based on the Final Composite Score. The final composite score is based on a candidates’s WAT-PI performance, 2021 scores, and academic profile. Each Component will be assigned a different weight, as illustrated in the table below. This is the final stage of the selection process before admission offers are extended to selected candidates.

A final note!

• IIM Indore’s latest admission policy reveals that the institute will lay major emphasis on a candidate’s academic profile.
• While shortlisting candidates for the WAT-PI round, nearly 74% of the weight for calculating the composite score will be for 10th and 12th marks.
• This means that only 20% of the weighted composite score is in your hands (the other 6% being assigned for diversity).
• Candidates with work experience will have no advantage in the admissions process, i.e., the admissions process is a level playing field for freshers as well as experienced applicants.
• Female and non-engineer applicants will have a slight advantage over the rest. In the final round, your performance in the personal interview will be the most influential factor.
• Competition will be close in this round, and your CAT 2021 score may be the difference between an admission offer and a regret letter.
