MDI Gurgaon has announced the commencement of registrations for PGDM 2021-23. The application window that has commenced on 16 September 2020 will end a day before CAT 2020.
In an already eventful fortnight for B-school aspirants, the admission announcement from MDI Gurgaon comes just at the right time. The others in the fray already are XAT 2021, SNAP 2020, NMAT 2020, SPJIMR 2021-23 admissions. Of course, the list would be incomplete if we do not mention the ripples the IIM CAT’s announcement about the CAT 2020 pattern change, and IIM Kozhikode’s selection policy update, have created.
What are the details of the MDI Gurgaon announcement? What is the deadline to apply? Which examinations’ scores would be considered for admissions? Let’s get all of these answered!
MDI Gurgaon – what are the programmes for which registrations have begun?
There are four different programmes for which registrations have commenced.
- PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management) 2021-23
- PGDM – HRM (Human Resources Management) 2021-23
- PGDM – IB (International Business) 2021 – 23
- PGDM – NMP (National Management Programme) 2021
The first three are the regular two-year courses, while the NMP is similar to an Executive PGP offered at the IIMs, and spans 15 months.
The application window and deadlines
The application window for all the four programmes mentioned above has begun on 16 September 2020.
Programme | Application Window Starts on | Application Window Ends on |
PGDM | 16 September 2020 | 27 November 2020* |
PGDM – HRM | 16 September 2020 | 27 November 2020* |
PGDM – IB | 16 September 2020 | 27 November 2020* |
PGDM – NMP | 16 September 2020 | 8 January 2021 |
* – Window closes at 5.00 pm IST
What are the qualifying examinations?
The admissions to NMP will be decided based on CAT 2020 or GMAT scores. For the other three, Indian candidates should write CAT 2020 and the others GMAT. The following table explains this in detail.
Programme | Indian Candidates | PIO/NRI/Foreign National Candidates |
PGDM | CAT 2020 | GMAT |
PGDM – HRM | CAT 2020 | GMAT |
PGDM – IB | CAT 2020 | GMAT |
PGDM – NMP | CAT 2020/GMAT | CAT 2020/GMAT |
The eligibility criteria for the programmes
Each of the four programmes mentioned above require candidates to meet some minimum criteria for eligibility.
1) PGDM and PGDM – HRM
The candidate should have scored a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in both Class 10 and 12. Further, the candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA.
The CGPA to percentage (and vice-versa) conversion and confusion
As we already mentioned in our CAT registration series, every institution/University will have a different calculation to convert the percentage to CGPA. It is always prudent, even if you have the slightest of confusions, to confirm with the respective college’s administration before entering the details in any application form.
2) PGDM – IB
This programme requires a slightly different eligibility criteria as opposed to those for the PGDM and PGDM – HRM programmes.
What is different?
In addition to the criteria mentioned for the PGDM and PGDM – HRM applicants, the following are other criteria that the candidates applying to the IB programme are expected to satisfy the following:
- The candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree that spans/spanned a minimum of 4 years.
- The candidates must have a minimum of one year post- qualification work experience, as on 31 December 2020.
The second point clearly implies that any work experience before completion of the Bachelor’s Degree would not be taken into account.
3) PGDM – NMP
The eligibility criteria for this programme is very similar to those for the PGDM and PGDM – HRM programmes, only with one important caveat.
The caveat
The candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of executive work experience, as on 31 December 2020.
Given the fact that the NMP is an executive PGP, the expectation in terms of work experience is not an anomaly, but a routine expectation.
