SPJAIN Mumbai’s has released their selection policy for admission to the PGDM batch of 2022-2024. It is a 2-year, full-time programme which is ranked among the top 10 two-year programmes within India. A PGDM in SPJIMR Mumbai offers the following specializations:
- Finance
- Information Management
- Marketing
- Operations & Supply Chain
Minimum eligibility criteria
Consistent academic background
The candidate should possess a consistent academic background. Performance of 10th grade,12th grade and every year of graduation are considered in the selection process.
10th and 12th grade
- An aggregate of all subjects marks mentioned on the mark sheet will be considered for arriving at the final percentage. This is irrespective of whether the board takes it into consideration or not while calculating the final percentage.
- If a board awards grades then the same has to be converted into percentage by using the applicable conversion factor.
Graduation
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA awarded by any university.
- The bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the applicant must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.
- The percentage obtained by the applicant in the bachelor’s degree would be based on the practice followed by the institution/university from where the applicant has obtained the degree.
- If the institute provides grades/CGPA instead of marks, a conversion of the same to equivalent percentage is mandatory. If no conversion factor is available/provided, then obtained CGPA needs to be multiplied by conversion factor of 10 to obtain the percentage.
Relevant Work Experience
- Relevance of work experience for the specialization chosen after graduation will be considered.
- But, work experience is not mandatory for this programme, graduates with no work experience and those with less than five years of work experience can apply.

For CAT 2021 candidates, the minimum overall cut-off is placed at the 85th percentile, with the minimum sectional cut-offs being placed at the 75th percentile.
For GMAT takers, the cut-off is 690 (~ 85th percentile), with minimum sectional cut-offs being placed at the 75th percentile for the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning Sections of the GMAT.
Selection process
The applicants are shortlisted on the basis of their profiles. They are also expected to meet the
qualifying scores in at least one of the entrance exams. The profiles are scored and the applicants
are sorted into two groups: Profile based (1st phase) and Profile-cum-score based (2nd phase).
Profile based shortlist for interview
Applicants shortlisted in the first phase are called for an early interview. The shortlist is based on
their profile considering the following factors:
- Consistency of academic record
- Relevance of work experience for the specialization chosen
- Versatility and achievements.
Second phase shortlist
This phase is held after the availability of entrance test scores. Applicants in this phase are called
for interviews on basis of their profile as given above, along with their performance in the
entrance tests.
Selection list criteria
According to the selection policy, the selection list is based on
- A composite score, which takes into account the applicant’s profile
- Academic record
- Entrance test scores (CAT/ GMAT only)
- Relevance of work experience (if any, not mandatory to have work experience)
- Performance in the two rounds of group interviews.
- Applicants will be shortlisted either purely based on their profile or on a profile-cum-score basis.
The Caveat
If you are wondering why there is a need to write an exam when there is a shortlist purely based on the profile, there is a catch. You are still required to reach the minimum sectional and overall cut-offs in CAT or GMAT. Failing this, your getting shortlisted through profile will be deemed invalid.(ouch!)

To apply for the PGDM Programme, applicants must fill the form on the online admissions portal (which opens on September 25th, 2021) by November 26th, 2021. The application processing fee is Rs. 1,500.
The current intake for the PGDM 2021-23 is 240. An additional 36 seats reserved for PIO (Person of Indian Origin) / OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) and Foreign Nationals. The maximum total intake of the programme is up to 276 seats.
Important points to keep in mind
- SPJIMR Mumbai has set the overall CAT 2021 cut-off at the 85th percentile while the cut-offs for the VARC, DILR and QA section have been set at the 75th percentile.
- SPJIMR no longer accepts XAT scores for admission.
- The minimum overall GMAT cut-offs has been set at the 85th percentile which is an overall GMAT score of 690. The minimum sectional GMAT cut-offs have been set at the 75th percentile for Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning section
- SPJIMR will extend profile based interview calls to applicants depending on the consistency of academic record, relevance of work experience for the specialization chosen and versatility and achievements of the applicant, given the candidate is meeting the minimum eligibility cutoff in the entrance exam.
