IIM C Selection Criteria for 2022-24 batch

August 31, 2021 By Rajesh [wtr-time]

IIM C Selection Criteria for 2022-24 batch

IIM Calcutta selection process for the PGP comprises of two stages :

  1. Shortlisting candidates for WAT/PI round.
  2. Final Selection of candidates post WAT/PI round

Shortlisting for Personal Interview and Written Ability Test

Candidates will be shortlisted based on CAT 2021 score, past academic performance, and other criteria provided below.

Stage I : Minimum CAT percentile cut-offs to be considered for PI and WAT process

Stage 1 requirements of securing minimum section-wise and overall percentiles in CAT 2021 to be considered for short-listing are as per Table 1 below:

Minimum requirements of CAT Percentiles for Stage I

CategorySection 1 : VARCSection 2. DILRSection 3. QATotal Percentile
Open≥80≥80≥75≥85
NC-OBC≥70≥65≥65≥75
EWS≥70≥65≥65≥75
SC≥65≥60≥60≥70
ST≥55≥55≥55≥65
PWD≥45≥45≥45≥55
Table 1

Candidates securing the above mentioned minimum percentile in CAT 2019 in respective category will only be considered for calculation of their composite score in Stage II (described below). Please note that the actual section-wise and overall percentile of a short-listed candidate may be much higher than the above mentioned criteria as it will depend upon the number of candidates to be called for interview (CFI) in each category.

Stage II : Short listing for PI and WAT process

The Composite Score is calculated by computing the percentage of marks as detailed in Table 2 and assigning weights to different components as detailed in Table 3.

Method of allotting points for aggregate percentage secured in Class 10 and Class 12 is based on Table 2 below:

Points awarded for class 10 and 12 marks

Class 10 marks (in %)PointsClass 12 marks (in %)Points
≥8010≥8015
≥75 and <808≥75 and <8012
≥70 and <756≥70 and <759
≥65 and <704≥65 and <706
≥60 and <652≥60 and <653
<600<600
Table 2

Computation of percentages in class 10 and 12

For computing the percentage of marks obtained in Class 10 and Class 12, the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the mark sheet/grade sheet would be considered irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage or not.

Allocation of weights to different components and methods for deriving composite scores for each category is based on Table 3 below:

Components and Corresponding weights for deriving Composite scores

ParametersWeightsMethod Of Calculation
CAT 2021 Score*56(A/B) x 56
Class 10 marks10As per Table 2 above
Class 12 marks15As per Table 2 above
Gender Diversity Factor44 points will be awarded to promote gender diversity

Table 3

A =  Candidate’s Total CAT 2021 score

B = Maximum CAT 2021 Score

After deriving the composite scores, composite cut-off are decided in each category for short-listing the candidate in Stage II selection process. The number of candidates to be short-listed for PI and WAT process would be the sole discretion of the Institute depending upon the batch size of the in-coming batch.

Stage III : Criteria for Final Selection for the MBA program

The composite score for final selection is derived as per the criterion based on Table 4. The corresponding weights against each parameter is listed in Table 4 which are used for preparation of category-wise merit list.

Work Experience

For work experience, a maximum of eight points will be awarded based on the length of service (in completed months) as on January 31, 2022 (Please refer Table 5 below). However, only managerial work experience after completion of bachelor’s degree will be considered. Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.

Months< 1212 to 1819 to 2425 to 3031 to 3637 to 4243 to 48>48

The final selection list will be based on merit in each category; minimum eligibility in any of the above mentioned stages or criteria would not automatically qualify the candidate for admission into IIM Calcutta.

Important points to keep in mind

  • For shortlisting candidate for the WAT-PI round, IIM Calcutta has included the candidate’s CAT 2021 score, 10th marks, 12th marks, and gender diversity factor as selection criteria. But but but, this year IIM Calcutta has not included graduation marks as a selection criteria in its admission process.
  • The most important component for admission to IIM Calcutta will be your CAT 2021 score, because this year IIM Calcutta has assigned 56 points to your CAT score, out of 85. This means almost 65% of the WAT-PI selection criteria is entirely in your hands. So if you have skeletons in your closet IIM Calcutta is the place to be. So throw everything into the preparation of CAT, and give your best. At this point you may also want to know how to make the most out of the remaining 3 months. Watch this video to know, how you can utilize the remaining 3 months to get kick-ass score in CAT.

Best wishes for CAT!!

The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight,
but they, while their companions slept,
were toiling upward in the night.
